Aquatic Ecosystems Analysis Laboratory, UC Davis

This is one of my favorites. I created this logo for my UC Davis lab back around 2004 or 2005. The themes of interconnectivity and cyclical patterns feature prominently. A pair of Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus species) are featured: the male is discerned by the hooked jaw or “kype” it develops as it enters breeding condition.

The design was adapted from an early concepts I created for another UC Davis unit, and that version had kelp fronds in place of the salmon pair. It was just a bit too close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium logo, however.
